Lawler held the latter championship another 13 times when the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) controlled it.
Lawler has created some musical recordings. Among these are two late-70s singles: "Cadillac Man/Memphis", and "Bad News". During his feud with manager Jimmy Hart (Jerry Lawler is a factor for "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart entering professional wrestling. Lawler wanted to record a wrestling album with him singing and, since they had gone to school together, he called Hart and asked him to be a part of it) in the mid-80s, Hart became known as "The Wimp", a nickname given to him by Lawler and chanted by fans. Hart was the subject of the song "Wimpbusters", which was sung by Lawler to the tune of the popular hit Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr.. A music video was also made, featuring Lawler, legendary announcer Lance Russell, and wrestlers such as Randy Savage, Jimmy Valiant, Dutch Mantel, Tommy Rich, and Rufus R. Jones, along with footage of "The King" beating Hart and his "First Family." A very young Brian Christopher also made an appearance as a young child being bullied, and another child is seen wearing a replica of Tully Blanchard's West Texas State jersey. He also recorded a CD titled "Memphis' Other King".
In 1998, Lawler began filming the movie Man on the Moon, starring Jim Carrey. The two men allegedly did not get on along on set, which led to an altercation that left Carrey with a neck injury similar to the one suffered by Kaufman.
In 1999, Jerry Lawler ran for mayor of Memphis, Tennessee. His platform focused on making the streets safer for residents, beautifying the city and improving the quality of education. In addition, he vowed to attract businesses to Memphis, improve the flow of traffic, create more parks, and decrease property taxes. Lawler ended up with 11.7% of ballots, beating twelve of the fifteen candidates. Ultimately, however, Mayor Willie Herenton was easily reelected.

Todd Grisham: One notable slip in Todd Grisham's temporary ring announcing position occurred when he had called a number one contender's match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship on RAW between Shelton Benjamin and Carlito, but instead accidentally calling it the Cruiserweight Championship which is on SmackDown!. Commentators Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler used it as an excuse to how much they missed normal announcer Lilian Garcia who was injured the week before after a Samoan Drop from Viscera.
Todd Grisham did another botched slip of enunciation during the Chris Benoit DVD Hard Knocks: The Chris Benoit Story during a match between the Pegasus Kid (Chris Benoit) and Japanese wrestling legend, Jushin "Thunder" Liger as Grisham would pronounce Jushin as "Justin", and Benoit would correct him.
During an episode of WWE.com's Byte This!, he responded to a letter sent in by controversial superstar The Ultimate Warrior (Jim Hellwig) where the Warrior declined the invite to come to the show to talk about his DVD, The Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior. During the letter, Warrior went on to insult recovering cancer patient Bobby Heenan and called Todd Grisham "gay". Todd responded in good humor by saying he may have experimented in college, but that was no reason for that claim.
Grisham also participated in a series of conversations on Byte This with fans of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling who interrupted the show to either proclaim TNA a superior product,or to insult Todd directly when he chose to sugarcoat and dodge TNA related questions, Todd held his own against the attacks and retaliated with his own retorts, some humorous, and some hostile (once calling one TNA fan a "retard").
Todd Grisham has twice won the Wrestling Observer Newsletter award for Worst Television Announcer in 2004 and again in 2006.
During a December 2006 interview with upcoming WWE talent Vladimir Kozlov, Grisham mistakenly called him "Viktor Kozlov", who is actually a hockey player.
Besides some of the kayfabe injuries that Grisham had on RAW he also was injured and insulted by Carlito on Byte This. Carlito would spit a chewed apple in his face. Carlito would then pick Grisham's own apples and throw it in his crotch.
Grisham replaced Jerry "The King" Lawler on March 19, 2007 after The Great Khali chokebombed him.

Scott had also been dating TNT president Brad Siegel's niece, Emily Sherman in the middle of his divorce to Dana. He had ended their relationship as he felt he was too old for her, along with the fact that they had an argument while WCW was on tour in Germany as one of Scott's ex-girlfriends had approached him and Sherman became enraged. He also mentioned that he was pulling for Canada when Canada played the United States in the 2002 Olympic gold medal hockey game. He shares dual citizenship with both Canada and the United States.
Jericho was inducted into the Canadian Wrestling Hall of Fame on September 25, 1997. On July 5, 2004, Jericho was awarded The Order of the Buffalo Hunt in a ceremony held in Manitoba for his achievements in wrestling and his continual commitment to working with underprivileged children. The award has previously been given to Pope John Paul II, Chicago mayor Richard Daley, Desmond Tutu, and Mother Teresa.
Chris attended his good friend Eddie Guerrero's funeral along with Chris Benoit and other wrestling personalities. The day after Guerrero's death, Jericho was interviewed on WWE's official website where Jericho said that Eddie was like a brother to him and talked about the time they shared together along with Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko.
Kane: Bad Blood 2003 was the last PPV where Kane wore his mask in a match.
Jacobs has been married twice. His first marriage was to Maurisa, who he married in 1995, and he has two stepdaughters. He married Natasha on August 24, 2004 and has two children.
He is an active member of the Libertarian party, having endorsed both Bob Smither and Barry Hess. He has also openly endorsed Republican Presidential Candidate Ron Paul for President.
Jacobs made his film debut as "Jacob Goodnight" in the first production of WWE Films, See No Evil, which was released on May 19, 2006.
Jacobs appeared on a special WWF edition of "The Weakest Link" in March 2002 and became the strongest link by defeating Bubba Ray Dudley in the final round. The money won was donated to Jacobs' chosen charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in Memphis, Tennessee.
The "Kane" character was featured in the fourteen issue Undertaker comic book produced by the now-defunct Chaos! Comics in 1999. The character only spoke once, in the Undertaker Halloween Special, which tied into the single issue Mankind comic book produced by the same company. This series introduced a comic-exclusive character, Kane's younger half-sister, "Jezebelle" (like Kane, supposedly the result of a liaison between Paul Bearer and an unnamed woman). As Jezebelle was related to Kane only in that they shared a common father, she presumably had no relation to The Undertaker.
A book written by Michael Chiappetta detailing the kayfabe origins of the Kane character entitled "Journey into Darkness" was released in 2005.
Jacobs appeared in the March 22 episode of Smallville entitled "Combat", where he plays a Phantom Zone criminal from another world named Titan, who faces off against Clark Kent.
Stone Cold Steve Austin: Following the end of his in-ring wrestling career, Austin began pursuing a career in acting. In January 2005, Austin signed a three picture deal with WWE Films. Austin has also appeared on several television series, and, along with fellow wrestlers Goldberg, Kevin Nash, Bob Sapp and The Great Khali, appeared in the 2005 remake of The Longest Yard. 2007 saw the release of The Condemned which starred Austin as "Jack Conrad". The movie failed to meet box office expectations.
Steve married his former valet Jeannie Clark in 1992 and together they had two daughters, Stephanie (born in 1992) and Cassidy (born in 1996). They divorced in 1999 prior to WrestleMania XV and their daughters now live in England with Jeannie. Steve also has an adopted daughter, Jade, the daughter of Chris Adams and Jeannie.
On September 6, 2000, Austin married Debra Marshall. However, on June 15, 2002, police were called to their residence in San Antonio. They found a hysterical Debra with bruises. Austin had left the house and was asked by police not to return. On August 14, 2002, Austin was arrested and charged with domestic abuse. He pled no contest on November 25, 2002 and was given a year's probation, a $1,000 fine and ordered to carry out eighty hours of community service. Debra claims that Steve Austin was a steroid user and this incident was the result of roid rage.
Austin filed for divorce from Debra on July 22, 2002.
As reported by his former wife Debra Marshall, Austin legally changed his name to Steve Austin sometime in the past two years.

Kenyon "Kenney" was born March 26, 2006. On July 24, 2006, Shane became an uncle, when his sister Stephanie had her daughter Aurora Rose Levesque.
Shane usually wears baseball jerseys for his matches, with the front saying Shane O Mac and the back reserved for McMahon, the name of the PPV he's participating in, or some other phrase relating to the match and/or his opponent.
When Vince McMahon was interviewed in Playboy, he mentioned that Shane was suffering from ADHD, for which they placed him on Ritalin.
Although Shane is right-handed, he often throws left-handed punches.

Gene Okerlund: He was given the nickname Mean Gene by Jesse "The Body" Ventura.
His name has been associated with fast food chain, Mean Gene’s Burgers, and a chain of pizzerias located within bowling alleys, Mean Gene's Pizza. These are owned by Hot Stuff Foods, which was headed by two of his nephews. Early in 2006, Okerlund and Hot Stuff split. Okerlund and one of the nephews were planning to start their own food company on the brands, but Hot Stuff sued, claiming they had "Mean Gene" trademarked. Okerlund lost, with the judge saying that Okerlund can't use the name "Mean Gene" for his new food company. Okerlund succeeded in cancelling the trademark registrations held by Orion, but remains enjoined from competing with Orion.
Gene's son Todd starred on the University of Minnesota ice hockey team from 1983 to 1987. Todd played in the 1988 United States Olympics team that competed in Calgary. He played four games with the NHL's New York Islanders. A chronic knee injury ultimately forced his early retirement.
In 2004, Okerlund received a kidney transplant, and fully recovered from the operation.
CM Punk: Punk has adopted his real-life following of the straight edge movement as his professional wrestling gimmick, but the gimmick uses different elements of Punk's personality and the beliefs of the straight edge movement depending on his alignment. While portraying a face, the gimmick tends to be that of Punk's normal personality, largely indifferent to others who drink alcohol, smoke tobacco, partake in recreational drug use or have promiscuous sexual behavior, but emphasizing the social discipline involved with abstinence. Conversely, his heel personality tends to be that of one who is militantly straightedge, exemplifying the elitist attitudes and superiority complexes - defined by Punk's common mantra during heel promos that, because he is straight edge, he is "better than you". Regardless of alignment, Punk performs the straight edge symbol of crossing his arms in an X formation while having the letter X written on the back of his hands, usually drawn on his wrist tape.
The meaning of the CM portion of Punk's ring name is a source of discussion as to its meaning and origins. Originally, the CM stood simply for "Chick Magnet" as it related to his original backyard wrestling tag team. However, Punk would later state that CM had multiple meanings and would give different answers and stories when asked, such as "Cookie Monster", "Crooked Moonsault", "Chuck Mosley", "Charles Montgomery" and "Charles Manson".
An integral part of Punk's gimmick is that of the numerous tattoos that adorn his body, some of which have come to become symbols associated with Punk as well as mantras and declarations that have been integrated into his gimmick. The tattoos as a whole, due to their large quantity and variety, have also become an attribute identifiable to Punk. The most important of the individual tattoos in Punk's character, whether through association, symbol, or mantra, are:
A Pepsi logo on his left shoulder which inspired the names of two of his signature moves which also became a symbol of Punk himself, wearing the logo on his ring gear in the independent circuit as well as a slightly modified Pepsi logo being used as part of his TitanTron entrance video. He got the tattoo as a joke, as many fraternity members in his school were getting beer logos tattooed on their body, so Punk, a keen Pepsi drinker, chose to receive a Pepsi tattoo to emphasize his straight edge beliefs. The tattoo is also a reference to former Minor Threat guitarist Brian Baker, who had a Coca-Cola tattoo and explained this by saying "I like Coca-Cola". When people inquire about Punk's Pepsi tattoo, he often replies "I like Pepsi" in a similar fashion.
The words "Straight Edge" are spelled out on his stomach. This tattoo is one of Punk's oldest tattoos and has been referred to by Punk as his identity.
A sleeve tattoo on his left arm entitled "luck is for losers", a mantra used on some of the choices for Punk's first ECW T-shirt, that features numerous symbols of good luck including a rabbit's foot, four-leaf clover and a horseshoe. The tattoo also features four ace playing cards as a tribute to trainer Ace Steel.
His knuckles spell out "DRUG FREE" when placed together, "DRUG" on the right knuckles and "FREE" on the left. This tattoo is often used in wrestling as a taunting gesture to the crowd and opponents.
A tattoo of the COBRA logo is on his right shoulder. On his right arm is the emblem of the Arashikage Ninja Clan.
A tattoo on the back of his left hand reading "No gimmicks needed".
Punk's character and gimmick have been parodied by the wrestling federation CHIKARA with the character CP Munk, the straight edge chipmunk. The character is simply a chipmunk mascot costume which includes references to Punk such as X marked wrist tape, a Pepsi logo on the costume's left shoulder, and a high-pitch version of Punk's best-known independent circuit theme song Miseria Cantare - The Beginning, as performed by the band AFI. Punk has stated on the Q&A section of his website that some days he can laugh about CP Munk, and other days it makes him a bit angry.
Punk was born, raised and lived in Chicago, Illinois with a father with alcohol problems, his mother, two younger sisters and a brother. His brother grew up to also be a professional wrestler, using the ring name Mike Broox; however, Punk and Mike had a falling out after Mike embezzled several thousand dollars from the Lunatic Wrestling Federation. Punk first wished to pursue a career in professional wrestling after watching Roddy Piper crack a coconut over Jimmy Snuka's head during an edition of the Piper's Pit. While viewing his alcoholic father and reading that alcoholism may have been hereditary Punk made an agreement with himself to abstain from drinking alcohol to prevent the situation from occurring. During high school Punk discovered the hardcore punk music genre, most importantly for him Minor Threat, and by extension found the hardcore subculture which in turn lead to the discovery of the straight edge culture, which Punk himself adopted. After high school and beginning his wrestling career Punk moved out of the family house and lived for a time with fellow professional wrestler Allison Danger. Punk later moved into an apartment with Ace Steel; however, since then Punk has made reference to living alone in Chicago. Punk worked other jobs to support himself in his early career, the last of which was as a laboratory technician for Underwriters Laboratories until he was fired due to poor conduct and work ethic in October 2002.
In relationships Punk has made reference to two ex-girlfriends in his early career and later was romantically linked to professional wrestlers Shannon Spruill and Tracy Brookshaw both of whom had managed him in ROH. Punk also dated Maria Kanellis, however they have since ended their relationship.
Tommy Dreamer: Dreamer married Trisa Hayes, better known by her ring name Beulah McGillicutty, on October 12, 2002, with whom he has twin daughters — Kimberly and Briana. Kimberly and Briana appeared in a sixth season episode, "The Ride", of the HBO drama The Sopranos playing Domenica Baccalieri, Tony Soprano's baby niece.
Dreamer made a cameo in the adult film Whack Attack 5 by Extreme Associates. He also appeared, along with fellow ECW wrestler New Jack, in the "Mel Schwartz, Bounty Hunter" episode of the TV series Early Edition as a biker.
JBL: His parents are Lavelle Layfield, who is a minister, and Mary Layfield.Layfield married Meredith Whitney on February 13, 2005 in Key West, Florida. She is an executive director of CIBC World Markets, part of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, and works in New York, where she analyzes the stocks of financial institutions. She appears regularly on Cavuto on Business, a Fox News program. She graduated with honors from Brown.
On his February 5, 2007 blog on WWE.com, Layfield announced that he is looking into running for political office in his home state of Texas
Layfield also makes weekly appearances on the Fox News Channel weekend business show, Bulls & Bears.
On November 1, 2007, Layfield's wife, Meredith, received several threatening e-mails after making a controversial announcement to the investment community to sell their shares of Citigroup stock. This financial advice from such a well known analyst caused many investors to indeed sell their stock in the company, costing Citigroup an estimated $15 billion according to The Wall Street Journal. Layfield stands by his wife's decision, calling the people who threatened her "cowardly pieces of shit" and canceled a planned trip to Texas to visit family so that he can, instead, accompany his wife in a protective role until heat from the incident dies down.
